About the Role
Everest is a global leader in risk management with over 50 years of experience. We are seeking a Surety Underwriter to assist the Surety team in maintaining and expanding a profitable Surety account in accordance with Line of Business (LOB) business plans, focusing on bottom-line underwriting profit.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Surety team in maintaining and expanding a profitable Surety account.
- Maintain a focus on bottom-line underwriting profit for the company.
- Monitor and stay updated on changes in underwriting, regulation, and compliance.
- Underwrite in compliance with Everest prescribed underwriting standards and authorities.
- Refer risks exceeding prescribed underwriting authority as appropriate.
- Represent Everest at meetings and during visits to brokers and customers.
- Assist in developing and maintaining existing client and broker relationships and developing new ones.
- Liaise with the Claims Manager and Head of International Surety on claims-related issues.
- Participate in account and management reviews.
- Contribute to the regular analysis and review of underwriting practices and procedures.
- Participate in the underwriting peer review process at weekly underwriting meetings.
- Assist in improving Everest Surety’s management information systems, rating models, underwriting manuals, service standards, marketing materials, website, and risk management and claims functions.
- Enhance the profile of Everest Insurance among Surety brokers and customers, primarily in the European market.
Requirements
- Previous experience within an Underwriting / Credit role.
- Good technical knowledge of Surety and/or banking business.
- Judgement / decision making skills – ability to use logic, rationality, and objectivity in decision making.
- Risk taking – ability to take calculated risks with favorable outcomes.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Compliance – ability to ensure compliance with all internal and external management and regulatory controls.
- Solid market and product knowledge – maintain and develop market knowledge including competitor profiles and products.
- Relationship building – ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships both internally and externally.
