About the Role

Performs mechanical inspection, repair, maintenance, preventive maintenance, installation, and calibration of the Districts heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC). Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Responsibilities

• Respond to routine and emergency service calls for HVAC equipment.
• Diagnose defects, repair or replace defective parts in HVAC units and equipment.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspections and associated repairs on HVAC equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuitry and read/interpret schematics related to HVAC equipment.
• Inspect and verify the operational safety of all heating boilers, roof top units, air handling units and ventilation systems.
• Monitor equipment operation through the Building Automation system (BAS).
• Test, troubleshoot and set up boilers and boiler combustion efficiency.
• Perform seasonal start up and shutdown of HVAC equipment including evaporative coolers, cooling towers, chillers and boilers.
• Maintain accurate records and logs related to HVAC equipment.
• Assist other trades with piping and repair issues.
• Provide labor and material estimates for HVAC related to small remodel projects.
• Ensure applicable mechanical codes and regulatory requirements are met.
• Recommend repair needs to supervisor to accomplish and eliminate ongoing and future repairs.
• Handle hazardous materials and understand disposal requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and equipment manuals.
• Ability to recognize, understand and interpret all local, state, and national codes.
• Requires knowledge in standard practices of the HVAC, mechanical and refrigeration trade.
• Verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
• Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of chillers.
• Requires knowledge and skill in the use of forklifts, man lifts, hand and/or power tools.
• Knowledge of hazardous materials and disposal.
• Requires ability to perform math computations needed in trade.
• Knowledge of welding, soldering, and brazing.
• Ability to read and interpret basic building codes as it relates to the trade.
