About the Role

The Studio Store Sales Lead will be the specialist in all Studio Store products, launches, collaborations, and featured Black owned brands. This role acts as the main touchpoint for visitors and customers, sharing knowledge of store products and brands. The Lead is passionate about Black art, culture, and history, informing the community about products and brands that echo the Museum’s mission. This role works closely with Studio Store Marketing and Store Manager, and Visitor Experience Associates to ensure excellent standards for community engagement and sales floor maintenance. Responsibilities include upkeep and stock of displays, shelving, and store inventory. This role reports to the Studio Store Marketing and Store Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent compliance with protocols for handling cash, credit card, electronic transactions, and personal information.
  • Ensure store inventory on the floor and in storage room is well-maintained and organized.
  • Maintain and support strong merchandising standards.
  • Manage and maintain merchandising standards for the Visitor Associates team.
  • Ensure information about new products, upcoming events, and inventory changes are shared with Visitor Experience Associates prior to shifts.
  • Communicate stock needs with Inventory Stock Associate for transportation to the Museum.
  • Practice excellent customer service to ensure a great experience for all visitors to the store.
  • Interact with members of the VE team to instill enthusiasm with store products and be the point person for questions regarding store products.

Requirements

  • Required to work weekends and some evenings for special events and extended Museum hours.
  • Proactive approach, patience, and readiness regarding processes, merchandising, and overall store maintenance.
  • Able to maintain their composure and think and communicate clearly in emotionally charged and emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Able to climb several flights of stairs.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • Must upload resume and cover letter.
  • No phone calls or emails.

Skills

  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Desire to learn and develop excellent knowledge of products.
  • Outgoing, people-centered, and highly motivated.
  • Previous experience with Shopify is a plus.
  • Previous experience with POS is a plus.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.

Location

  • Museum

Work Type

  • Non-exempt
  • May require working more than forty (40) hours during a work week
  • Regular work week is 4 days, with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays being required
  • May include holidays as required

Experience Level

  • At least 3 years’ experience in customer-facing role in hospitality or retail, preferably in a museum or nonprofit environment.
  • Experience with cash handling protocols.

Education Level

  • Passion for Black art, history and culture.
