About the Role

The Outreach and Education Specialist is responsible for understanding and communicating information about a wide range of sexuality, relationship, and reproductive health issues, working with individuals of all age levels. Their primary focus will be in the development and delivery of outreach programs geared towards reproductive health awareness, healthy relationships, and self-empowerment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts needs assessments to identify needs, presents available options, and determines appropriate follow-up.
  • Identifies, designs, and presents programs that meet community educational needs, including healthy relationships, safe sex, and teen pregnancy.
  • Delivers evidence-based programs with fidelity to youth in various settings.
  • Conducts community outreach and education, participating in events like health fairs, school and college presentations, and community organization meetings.
  • Ensures proper documentation for client records and reports.
  • Aids and/or refers youth to obtain comprehensive family planning, health services, or other essential support services.
  • Participates in attainment of annual organizational goals and objectives by focusing on education and counseling needs.
  • May develop and present in-service programs to other PPCWNY staff.
  • Attends and works on internal organization committees as requested.
  • Attends community meetings as a representative of the organization.
  • Completes required reporting accurately and timely.
  • Participates in the annual update of reference materials.
  • Participates in affiliate initiatives.
  • Participates in programs to ensure cross-training occurs, supporting the clinic as needed.
  • Works on other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Health Education, or a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Associate’s degree in a related field plus two years’ experience in a community educator role.
  • 3 years work experience in a community educator role and cultural competence with a demographic population.
  • 2 years work experience in a PPCWNY program and cultural competence with a demographic population.
  • Ability to facilitate discussion /teach classes to youth in a variety of settings on reproductive health topics.
  • Experience working with youth and demonstrated ability to be inclusive and non-stigmatizing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and at various work sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be very organized and able to handle multiple priorities.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in two or more languages is desired.

  • Sufficient mobility to perform Essential Functions with or without accommodation.
