About the Role

The Adaptive Programming Specialist will support the day-to-day management and administration of the Rising New York Road Runners Youth Wheelchair Training Program. This role will also help create Adaptive Physical Education content for K-12 educators and liaise with Event Development and Production teams to ensure the needs of youth with disabilities are incorporated into event strategy, design, and execution. Additionally, the specialist will explore, secure, and nurture partnerships to support the youth AWD community.

Responsibilities

  • Meet weekly with co-Coaches, Full-Time Adaptive Programming Specialist, and Director of Youth Program Development regarding program direction and logistics.
  • Support the program development team by enhancing current resources and developing new ones.
  • Assist with scheduling, administration, and tracking of coaches' hours.
  • Provide support with other administrative tasks for the Youth Wheelchair Training Program.
  • Oversee pre-event logistics and support youth with disabilities on-site.
  • Assist with communication and coordination of reasonable accommodations at youth events.
  • Identify, secure, and activate partnerships and activities with mission-driven organizations to support the youth AWD community.
  • Promote the program at conferences, expos, and other tabling opportunities.
  • Transport equipment between office, practice, and competition locations.
  • Assist coaches on-site at practices, events, and trainings.
  • Provide general directions to NYRR coaching staff during weekly practice sessions.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with youth with physical disabilities.
  • Prior experience as a wheelchair racing athlete is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Teams, Powerpoint, Excel).
  • Familiarity with NYC communities across all five boroughs is a plus.
  • Ability to work weekends or evenings.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient in Spanish is a plus.
  • Work in-person practices and races on Saturday mornings from late August to late October, and from mid-April to early June.
  • Work in-person weekend practices or facilitate virtual practices from early January to mid-March.
  • Facilitate in-person or virtual sessions as needed outside of regularly scheduled programming.
  • First Aid and CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Represent NYRR in school, community, and professional meetings and events as appropriate.

  • Initiative to work independently while simultaneously collaborating across teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse group of youth athletes with disabilities.
