About the Role
Sheakley is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee safety protocols for a mechanical contractor on a significant construction project at the Austin Convention Center. This role is ideal for a safety professional with practical experience in mechanical construction, particularly in underground work.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily safety leadership for mechanical construction and underground work.
- Conduct site inspections to identify and address unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices.
- Support job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and daily safety meetings.
- Monitor excavation, trenching, underground utility, equipment, and mechanical installation activities.
- Verify compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety procedures.
- Coach employees and subcontractors on hazard recognition and safe work practices.
- Enforce PPE, housekeeping, access-control, and site-safety requirements.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, training records, and corrective-action documentation.
- Partner with project leadership to address hazards proactively.
Requirements
- Previous mechanical construction safety experience.
- Current OSHA 30 certification.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements.
- Experience supporting underground construction activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment with potentially increasing hours.
