About the Role

Sheakley is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee safety protocols for a mechanical contractor on a significant construction project at the Austin Convention Center. This role is ideal for a safety professional with practical experience in mechanical construction, particularly in underground work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily safety leadership for mechanical construction and underground work.
  • Conduct site inspections to identify and address unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices.
  • Support job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and daily safety meetings.
  • Monitor excavation, trenching, underground utility, equipment, and mechanical installation activities.
  • Verify compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety procedures.
  • Coach employees and subcontractors on hazard recognition and safe work practices.
  • Enforce PPE, housekeeping, access-control, and site-safety requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, training records, and corrective-action documentation.
  • Partner with project leadership to address hazards proactively.

Requirements

  • Previous mechanical construction safety experience.
  • Current OSHA 30 certification.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements.
  • Experience supporting underground construction activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment with potentially increasing hours.
