About the Role
Lollypop Farm is seeking a part-time Veterinary Technician to assist veterinarians in providing surgical and medical care to shelter animals, as permitted by licensure. This role is crucial in supporting the adoption process and ensuring the well-being of animals under our care.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during initial health exams, surgical preparation, surgery, dental prophylaxis, anesthetic monitoring, and post-operative recovery.
- Perform digital radiography and understand animal positioning techniques.
- Perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and cystocentesis.
- Conduct laboratory work including fecal analysis, urinalysis, cytology, and titer testing.
- Prepare samples for shipment to external reference laboratories.
- Administer medications to hospitalized and shelter patients.
- Assist with cruelty examinations and forensic necropsies.
- Work with large and exotic animals.
- Perform euthanasia.
- Maintain accurate medical records and comply with inventory processes.
- Provide excellent customer service to staff, volunteers, and the community.
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Veterinary technician degree from an accredited school.
- Valid NYS veterinary technician license.
- New graduates must obtain a temporary license and pass the VTNE.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Expertise with clinical equipment including anesthetic machines, oxygen delivery units, EKG, pulse oximetry, capnography, microscopy, digital radiography, doppler, and ultrasound.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Ability to remain stationary during shift, move throughout the building, and move weight up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to communicate with others frequently.
- Ability to move excessive weight occasionally.
