About the Role

The Capital Management Oversight Associate will support the independent oversight of capital adequacy and capital management across different legal entities and jurisdictions within the Treasury Risk Management team. This role offers an opportunity to learn, contribute to team oversight, and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent oversight of capital ratios and capital adequacy, capital management strategies and plans for relevant SMBC entities in the Americas region.
  • Execute ongoing review and challenge of capital ratios (e.g., CET1, Tier 1, Total Capital, Leverage), risk-weighted assets (RWA), leverage assets, and buffers.
  • Prepare and present analyses and reports to senior management.
  • Ensure timely escalation of capital management issues and limit breaches to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Promote continuous enhancement of the second line risk oversight framework.
  • Support engagement with regional regulators on capital risk matters related to the second line function.
  • Ensure proper set up and documentation of the team’s processes, striving for process automation and efficiency.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with first line Treasury functions, providing support and risk advice while maintaining independence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with business partners and foster a risk culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in capital management, regulatory capital, stress testing, treasury, or risk management within first- or second-line groups of large U.S. banks or FBOs.
  • Understanding of U.S. regulatory capital requirements.
  • Understanding of financial markets and products.
  • Familiarity with banks’ capital framework, CCAR / stress testing, RWA methodologies (credit, market, operational), and leverage ratio construct.
  • Extremely organized and structured with strong project planning skills.
  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects simultaneously.
