About the Role
The Loans & Structured Credit Japan team, part of Global Financing & Credit Trading, Asia, focuses on a wide range of financing transactions for Japanese corporate clients. We seek a candidate who is hard-working, creative, diligent, professional, and capable of working both independently and as part of a dynamic team. Success in this role requires effective collaboration with diverse internal and external groups, frequent interaction with key stakeholders globally, and a passion for analytical, fast-paced, growth-oriented environments. The ability to manage multiple financing workstreams across various asset classes is essential.
Responsibilities
- Undertake credit analysis for financing transactions in Japan.
- Prepare Credit Memos and financial models, and collaborate with the CRM team for new transaction approvals.
- Coordinate with infrastructure teams for new transaction approvals.
- Address queries from other banks, investors, and insurers during the syndication process.
- Collaborate with the Origination team to generate new transaction leads.
- Arrange, underwrite, structure, and execute transactions as a key member of the deal team.
- Analyze potential transactions from a credit and risk perspective, including corporate and asset valuations and due diligence.
- Perform sophisticated cashflow modeling and sensitivity analyses, and analyze expected returns and performance metrics.
- Engage in client negotiations and assist with the documentation process, liaising with legal counsel, clients, and external parties.
- Explain credit proposals to key internal stakeholders and obtain necessary internal approvals.
- Collaborate with institutional and regional sales coverage teams on loan syndications and derisking activities.
- Monitor the position's performance post-closing and liaise with loan servicers, agents, and asset managers as required.
Requirements
- For Associate: Minimum 3 years of experience in asset-backed valuations and underwriting, corporate valuations, recourse and non-recourse loan structuring and origination.
- For VP: Minimum 6 years of experience in asset-backed valuations and underwriting, corporate valuations, recourse and non-recourse loan structuring and origination.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the leveraged loan, LBO, and M&A areas.
- Experience working in a similar role in a Japan-based financial institution or fund.
- Native Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
- Prior working knowledge of accounting, including financial statement analysis.
- Strong background in identifying, understanding, and underwriting risk.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing investment committee memorandums, internal reporting, and client presentations.
- Excellent computer literacy and significant experience using MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Team player with strong mentality and motivation to contribute.
