About the Role

Steer is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join their London-based Development Planning team. The role involves assisting with project delivery, client and team management, and expanding the UK business. Responsibilities

  • Enable growth of the transport Development Planning UK Business by securing opportunities with new clients and expanding existing Steer accounts.
  • Collaborate with Client Relationship Directors to cross-sell transport development planning work across various sectors, geographies, and clients.
  • Provide national leadership on technical aspects of transport development planning and ensure high-quality work delivery.
  • Engage in proactive business development, account direction, and work winning.
  • Win and direct large, complex projects and proposals as bid or project director.
  • Manage the financial and commercial performance of their market area or geography.
  • Target securing positions on government development frameworks and collaborate with partners.
  • Represent clients as an expert witness and at public inquiries.
  • Mentor and supervise team members.
  • Act as a work winner in the field of development planning in the UK, contributing to the company's reputation for excellence.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement with local authorities, politicians, and senior officials.
  • Present on major projects at conferences and industry events to enhance the company's profile.
  • Lead the production and delivery of proposals and marketing materials for the Development Planning & Design Practice.
  • Be accountable for the growth and profitability of the Practice.
  • Demonstrate a track record of project delivery in both private and public sectors, adapting to external factors and government policy.
  • Serve as a role model within the company and a mentor to senior colleagues.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate commercial, reputational, and contractual risks by leading senior teams.

Requirements

  • Major UK transport consultancy experience in the development planning market.
  • Clear evidence of achieving multiple high-profile planning consents as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Consultancy-based career with a proven track record in transport development planning.
  • Proven network of contacts and track record in business development with the potential to provide genuine additionality.

Salary/Compensations

  • Competitive salaries
  • Discretionary bonus scheme based on annual compensation (dependent upon individual and company performance)
  • All initial compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account.
  • In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus.
  • Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.
