About the Role
Lead the electrical engineering discipline across all Firmus AI Factory sites, ensuring consistent, high-quality implementation of electrical designs. This principal-engineer-equivalent management role is accountable for electrical execution, technical issue escalation, and safeguarding design intent from tender through energisation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering function within the AI Factory Development group.
- Define the interpretation, adaptation, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the reference electrical design across all Firmus sites.
- Set the technical standard for MV/LV distribution, UPS, standby generation, protection and coordination, earthing and bonding, power quality, and electrical interfaces to liquid-cooled AI compute halls.
- Act as the engineering authority for electrical execution across the AI Factory portfolio.
- Manage design governance in the field, deviation management, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning readiness, and safe energisation.
- Operate change-control and design-review processes to ensure site alignment with the Firmus reference design.
- Serve as the escalation point for deviations or necessary reference design evolution.
- Contribute operational learnings, site constraints, vendor performance, and commissioning findings back to reference design owners.
- Co-develop electrical standards, templates, and Basis of Design updates.
- Build, lead, and scale a geographically distributed electrical engineering team.
- Set the operating rhythm across time zones and establish consistent engineering practices and quality standards.
- Develop senior electrical engineers within Firmus.
- Represent electrical engineering in cross-functional Build, Commissioning, and Operations forums.
Requirements
- Accomplished electrical engineer for mission-critical, high-density digital infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in medium- and low-voltage distribution, UPS systems, standby and prime-power generation, static and rotary switching, protection and relay coordination, arc-flash and safety-in-design, earthing and bonding, and the electrical demands of dense GPU compute halls and liquid-cooled AI infrastructure.
- Understanding of power system modelling (load flow, short-circuit, motor starting, transient stability) and its application in design and operational decisions.
- Experience leading tender design reviews, consultant and contractor governance, factory acceptance testing, integrated systems testing, commissioning (level-1 through level-5), and handover to operations.
- Experience authoring or materially shaping Basis of Design documents, engineering templates, global minimum standards, and change-control processes at a hyperscale operator or equivalent.
- Comfort engaging utilities, regulators, and major equipment vendors.
- Ability to drive value engineering, DfMA, and sustainability outcomes without compromising reliability.
- Strong systems thinking, calm judgment under pressure, and confidence to challenge assumptions constructively.
- Communication skills to engage effectively with site engineers, customers, and executives.
- Commercial awareness and comfort operating across cultures and time zones.
- Genuine passion for building reliable AI infrastructure.
- Experience leading distributed, site-based engineering teams across multiple countries.
- Experience managing external consultants and EPC contractors to global standards.
- Experience working effectively across the build-to-run interface with Construction, Commissioning, and Operations.
- Experience delivering into APAC markets, particularly Indonesia and Australia, under diverse regulatory, grid, and utility conditions.
