About the Role

The Business Director (BD) is a key leader responsible for driving business stability and growth within an assigned portfolio of clients, new business, and staff. This role involves full P&L and revenue delivery responsibilities, ensuring the quality of agency output both strategically and creatively, and contributing to the overall strategic direction and day-to-day management of the agency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client portfolios, including new business and staff, with full P&L and revenue delivery responsibilities.
  • Ensure the quality of agency output, both strategically and creatively.
  • Collaborate with senior management on agency strategic direction and daily management.
  • Participate in new business development, talent development, and staff coaching.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior client personnel.
  • Develop and refine business development strategies.
  • Manage client briefs, projects, and requests.
  • Present and pitch agency services to potential clients.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and activities.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with client leadership.
  • Understand client business models and challenges.
  • Manage client expectations to align with agency deliverables and quality.
  • Provide account planning and strategic support to key clients.
  • Advise clients on customer management strategies.
  • Provide general business planning and marketing strategy advice.
  • Understand industry/market trends and success factors.
  • Understand the agency's service capabilities.
  • Develop strategic plans and translate them into business plans and tactics.
  • Modify business plans based on changing business conditions.
  • Nurture ideas and inspire team members to generate effective concepts.
  • Maintain the integrity of the creative product.
  • Earn the trust and respect of creative colleagues.
  • Provide direction and feedback to creative teams.
  • Challenge clients to accept and support strong ideas.
  • Foster a creative environment where big ideas are expected.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in communications or a related field, with a strong preference for experience within the advertising or marketing industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and managing high-performing teams.
  • Proven track record of leadership excellence and success in building and retaining talent.
  • Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently engage and influence high-level executives internally and externally.
  • Highly goal-oriented, organized, and dedicated approach to all aspects of work.
  • Strong understanding of P&L management, financial acumen, and revenue generation strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of brand management, strategic planning, customer engagement, and customer management principles.
