About the Role
As an Insider, you will lead small group tours across Japan and host unique local experiences, preparing and delivering unforgettable moments for clients. This is a fast-paced and varied role requiring flexibility to work approximately 210 days per year, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will share insights into Japanese culture, history, and modern life, acting as a mediator between clients and local suppliers. The role demands a strong commitment and involves significant time on the road, often with minimal breaks during peak seasons.
Responsibilities
- Lead small group tours around Japan with an exceptional level of customer service
- Deliver ‘Insider Days’ (full-day, half-day and evening tours for clients on tailor-made holidays) with an exceptional level of customer service
- Work with VIP clients and on privately escorted holidays once confidence and skill are demonstrated
- Ensure clients’ health and safety through regular briefings and on-the-ground practices, managing hazards and incidents appropriately
- Attend to clients’ dietary requirements
- Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers and partners
- Thoroughly prepare for tours
- Proactively deliver cultural talks, explanations, and share insights and experiences with clients in creative and fun ways
- Balance tour activities with led time and free time
Requirements
- Possess the legal right to unrestricted work in Japan or a valid Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa at the time of application
- Strong Japanese language ability
- Understanding of cultural nuances
- Flexibility to work 210 days per calendar year, including consecutive evenings, weekends, national holidays, Christmas, and New Year periods
- Ability to assist and support colleagues in last-minute and urgent situations
- Naturally charismatic and engaging personality
- Highly presentable, friendly, and approachable demeanor
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professionalism
- Comfortable with responsibility and making difficult decisions in challenging environments
