About the Role

The Tax Associate role supports the Associate Tax Manager in delivering day-to-day tax compliance services for alternative investment fund clients across Australia. This role is ideal for an individual with a proactive approach, strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a genuine willingness to learn and develop within fund tax. Client service is central to SS&C's success, making previous customer service experience and a client-focused mindset highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of tax compliance services for fund administration clients, including the preparation of tax calculations, tax returns, and regulatory reporting.
  • Assist with client onboarding and transitions.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Support projects that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and client service delivery across the Tax Services team.
  • Deliver accurate and timely tax reporting and compliance deliverables in accordance with client and regulatory deadlines.
  • Prepare tax compliance calculations and reporting, including distribution calculations, Annual Investment Income Reports (AIIR), income tax returns, investor tax statements, and Business Activity Statements (BAS).
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of tax policies, procedures, and controls to support effective tax risk management.
  • Respond to client queries promptly and professionally, delivering a high standard of client service.
  • Ensure compliance with operational policies, risk management frameworks, and internal control requirements.
  • Support the delivery of projects and system enhancements, including testing of tax templates, processes, and workflows.
  • Assist in monitoring and interpreting changes to accounting standards and Australian tax legislation to ensure tax compliance work is prepared in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 2–3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • CA, CPA, CTA, or Master of Taxation qualified, or actively working towards a recognised professional accounting or taxation qualification.
  • Previous experience in fund tax within a Big Four is highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of Australian fund taxation, including financial instruments, trusts (including MITs and AMITs), income tax, GST, and tax compliance requirements.
  • Exposure to alternative investment structures, including hedge funds, private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, or other managed investment vehicles, will be advantageous.
  • Understanding of fund accounting, financial reporting, and the operational risk and compliance requirements within a fund administration or client service environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate within a team-focused environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • A sound understanding of accounting principles, income tax, and GST legislation is desirable.
