About the Role

As an Urgent Care Medical Assistant, you will support providers and ensure efficient, compassionate care for patients with urgent and acute medical needs. This hourly, full-time position is ideal for individuals starting their medical career, eager to learn in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. You will help manage patient flow, perform clinical tasks, and provide clear communication to patients and families. Training and guidance will be provided to help you succeed in an urgent care setting.

Responsibilities

Greet and room patients, verify identity, and obtain vital signs.
Collect and document patient history, chief complaint, and basic health information in the EMR.
Prepare exam rooms before each visit, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and adequate stock of supplies.
Assist providers with basic clinical procedures, such as wound care, splinting support, point-of-care testing, and vaccinations.
Perform specimen collection for laboratory tests following proper infection control and labeling procedures.
Perform phlebotomy.
Support diagnostic testing workflows, including performing or assisting with EKGs and point-of-care lab tests.
Follow standard infection prevention and control practices.
Update and maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR.
Monitor and manage exam room and clinical supply inventory; restock and notify appropriate staff when supplies are low.
Coordinate patient flow to reduce wait times and support efficient use of provider and room resources.
Provide clear, compassionate communication and basic education to patients and families.
Assist with front-office tasks as needed, such as check-in/check-out, verifying insurance information, and scheduling follow-up appointments.
Respond calmly and appropriately in urgent or emergent situations.
Support a safe environment by reporting equipment issues, safety concerns, or unusual patient conditions promptly.
Participate in ongoing training, skills development, and team meetings.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical training preferred.
Current Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain prior to or shortly after hire.
No prior Medical Assistant experience required; interest in learning and working in an urgent care or fast-paced clinical setting is essential.
Familiarity with basic medical terminology and vital sign measurement, or willingness to learn.
Comfort using computers and ability to learn electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow detailed instructions, clinic protocols, and safety procedures reliably.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods, and to lift or position patients and equipment as needed.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Fluency in English, with the ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
