About the Role

The Staff Nurse Practitioner’s/Physician Assistant's primary responsibility is to provide consistently effective clinical services, behavioral health and physical, to the clients of the Dore Urgent Care Clinic. This includes the direct provision of psychiatric, medical and pharmacy services; assistance if needed with medical, behavioral health and pharmacy services for the Residential Treatment Program; establishing and maintaining effective relations with clients, client families and support people, and with the general community; and maintaining a comfortable, safe, non-institutional ambiance in the program.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical assessment of all newly admitted clients.
• Monitor and provide ongoing care for all clients being treated in the Urgent Care Clinic.
• Properly refer clients upon discharge from the UCC.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with personnel from the CBHS System of Care service providers and related services.
• Work as an interdisciplinary team member to respond to the needs of a diverse client population in psychological distress.
• Ensure services are provided in a manner consistent with prevailing standards of psychiatric and medical care, applicable laws and regulations, and Progress Foundation policies.
• Provide screening, formal evaluation, initial treatment, and referral for non-emergent ambulatory psychiatric and primary care conditions.
• Arrange safe and timely transfer of clients to other needed treatment services.
• Provide services within the UCC that are congruent with Social Rehabilitation values and promote these values within the Behavioral Health treatment community.
• Attend staff meetings and other program meetings as needed.
• Respond to program events, both routine and emergent, in a professional, thorough and timely manner.
• Maintain an overall Agency focus and actively participate in Agency and program activities.
• Serve as a positive role model for employee relations, professional functioning and conduct, and adherence to the principles of Social Rehabilitation.
• Maintain independent knowledge, skills, and abilities through continuing education and use of supervision and consultation.
• Identify and report to the Program Director any trends that affect the UCC.
• Provide direct services to clients, including initial medical and psychosocial assessments, evaluations for 5150 status, mental health status and safety assessments, and medication evaluations and prescriptions.
• Provide and/or order medications as indicated by the client’s clinical conditions and according to UCC standard protocols.
• Maintain required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in the collection of data concerning the UCC as required by funding sources and regulatory agencies.
• Remain flexible to assist the UCC with staffing shortages on various shifts.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Program Director.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all designated client referral sources and other related behavioral health and social services.
• Maintain favorable relations with neighbors of the program facility and the general community.
• Work with the Program Director to identify and develop policies or resources to promote the mission of the agency and the goals of the program.
• Ensure that all medication, charts and other client records are secure and confidential.
• Prescribe, administer and monitor the effects of medications, and adhere to program medication practices and procedures.
• Comply with all applicable San Francisco Community Behavioral Health Services regulations and California Department of Mental Health (Title 9) requirements.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state and local governmental laws and regulations, as well as all agency policies and procedures.
• Report to Progress Foundation Administration all incidents involving any program employee that may constitute a violation of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain compliance with Federal HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in maintaining the UCC facility environment so that it remains safe, attractive, and comfortable and non-institutional in character.
• Be thoroughly familiar with and adhere to emergency procedures for human injury, illness or adverse medication reactions.
• Be thoroughly familiar with the UCC emergency evacuation plan for fire, earthquake, power failure or other such disruption.

Requirements

• Maintain a valid California nursing license.
• Must have the willingness and ability to actively, enthusiastically and effectively engage psychologically distressed clients.
• Maintain a respectful and responsive attitude while providing therapeutically sound services.
• Be respectfully responsive to persons of differing ethnic, cultural, gender, socioeconomic, and sexual-orientation backgrounds.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with medical and mental health staff and other service providers both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated on-going emotional stability, good judgment and effective team work.
• Able to work proficiently on computers and computer-based information systems.
• Must maintain a valid California driver’s license, and additionally must be insurable under the agency's current auto insurance policies.
• The employee must be able to quickly navigate several flights of stairs several times a day.
• The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds multiple times during each work shift.
• The employee must be able to assist individuals in exiting the facility in the case of an emergency and to perform CPR and standard Medical First Aid procedures to persons in prone positions at ground level.

• Certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner with either a specialty in psychiatric nursing or 1 year documented experience providing nursing services in a psychiatric setting
• Possession of or eligible for Furnishing License
• Current valid California licensure as a Registered Nurse
• Current CPR certification
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• NCCPA certified
• Current state-issued Physician Assistant license
• DEA license

Salary/Compensations

• $185,436.00 - $185,436.00 annually
