About the Role

This role oversees the full financial controllership duties for three managed syndicates, a managing agent, and a corporate member. It involves managing the accounting ledger process, financial analytics, business partnership, and external/internal reporting. The position requires collaboration with various business areas and participation in finance projects like IFRS 17 implementation and control framework improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the ledger accounting process, including preparing Syndicate, managing Agent, and corporate member ledgers, and completing the GL Close.
  • Prepare management reports and analyze business unit performance, evaluating variances between actual and forecast results.
  • Manage the timely production and review of Lloyd's quarterly and annual regulatory returns, annual reports, and statutory financial statements with analysis and disclosures.
  • Ensure accuracy of BU financials in ledgers and promptly report and rectify any gaps before WDT close.
  • Prepare components of Board reporting, including Board papers and CFO & AC packs, and assist in presenting HSL finance to the board.
  • Prepare and present Lloyd's results commentary, including Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, and other KPIs for the governance committee.
  • Ensure internal deadlines for group financial reporting schedules are met and queries are answered promptly.
  • Ensure all technical, non-technical, and control account balance sheet reconciliations are prepared and accurately reflect differences.
  • Manage service delivery to stakeholders such as reserving and Syndicate FP&A, and accurately complete process handovers/handbacks with various departments.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for Syndicate auditors, maintain relationships, and manage the resolution of audit issues.
  • Ensure adherence to group accounting policies during accounting and reconciliation processes.
  • Ensure an effective financial control framework is in place and operating effectively, updating or introducing new controls as needed for process changes.
  • Identify and implement areas for process improvement to achieve a best-in-class Finance function.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for key strategic and tactical Finance projects and all Syndicate financial reporting matters.
  • Drive the development and implementation of efficient and accurate controllership processes to meet evolving business demands.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the Syndicate Accounting & Reporting team.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Syndicate Accounting and Reporting to enhance syndicate financial controls, ensure compliance with the Group’s financial controls framework, and identify and close reporting gaps.

Requirements

  • Significant experience within the Lloyd's market, specifically in syndicate accounting, reporting, and regulatory environments.
  • Extensive experience of Lloyd's reporting requirements, including oversight of regulatory submissions and reporting processes.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a track record of managing, developing, and motivating high-performing teams.
  • Experience operating in a management and oversight capacity, providing technical guidance, governance, and controls.
  • Experience working with offshore or distributed teams and building strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through change, transformation, and evolving operating models.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Degree educated and/or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience.
  • Excellent IT skills, including experience of accounting ledgers, reporting tools, and data analysis/modelling applications.
  • Prior experience of Lloyds Reporting (Preferential / Advantageous).
  • Exposure to IFRS 17, or technical accounting standard (Preferential / Advantageous).
