About the Role

New West Truck Centres is seeking experienced Journeyman Heavy Duty Technicians and registered 4th Year Apprentices who are open to building their careers and lives in Alberta. This position focuses on preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy duty trucks and related equipment within a collaborative Service team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and general repairs on heavy duty trucks and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, aftertreatment systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and air systems.
  • Complete CVIP inspections and related repairs when certified.
  • Test vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Coordinate with Parts Technicians to ensure required components are available or ordered.
  • Complete repairs safely, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
  • Review repair concerns provided by Service Advisors.
  • Diagnose faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and OEM procedures.
  • Interpret fault codes and technical information.
  • Identify the root cause of repair concerns.
  • Communicate repair findings, recommended repairs, and estimated completion timelines with Service Advisors.
  • Accurately record labour time, diagnostic findings, repairs performed, and parts used.
  • Complete repair orders and inspection documentation thoroughly and accurately.
  • Ensure documentation meets company, OEM, warranty, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with Service Advisors, Parts Technicians, and service leadership.
  • Participate in ongoing OEM, manufacturer, and in-house technical training.
  • Continue developing diagnostic and repair skills on modern heavy truck systems.
  • Maintain required certifications.
  • Stay current with evolving technologies and industry best practices.
  • Share knowledge and support apprentice development as opportunities arise.

Requirements

  • Ontario Truck and Coach Technician certification, Red Seal endorsement, Alberta Journeyperson certification, or another Canadian trade credential recognized in Alberta.
  • Registered 4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentices are encouraged to apply.
  • Heavy truck, transport truck, dealership, fleet, or commercial vehicle experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic abilities.
  • CVIP certification is an asset.
  • Freightliner and Western Star product experience is an asset.
  • Detroit and Cummins diagnostic experience is an asset.
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence is an asset.
  • Ontario-certified technicians are encouraged to apply.
  • Professional references will be required.
