About the Role

The Facilities Technician I is responsible for maintaining buildings to ensure a clean, safe, and functional environment. This role handles routine tasks, emergency repairs, preventative maintenance, groundskeeping, event setup, and supports various infrastructure needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily custodial duties in offices, staff, and public areas.
  • Maintain exterior common areas, including sweeping, washing, and pressure washing.
  • Maintain exterior landscaped areas, including pruning and shaping trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Maintain floor surfaces and operate carpet cleaning and floor maintenance equipment.
  • Operate laundry equipment and provide laundry services.
  • Assist with donation pick-up, delivery, and storage.
  • Relocate furniture and equipment, and set up temporary events.
  • Perform general off-site errands.
  • Assist with general facilities maintenance tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Support the repair, replacement, or maintenance of minor mechanical equipment.
  • Assist other departments with repair/maintenance projects.
  • Maintain a safe and secure campus by opening/closing and securing exterior doors.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment, and report needs to supervisor.
  • Follow safety protocols, local and state laws, and OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in disaster recovery plan and preparations.
  • Participate in the upkeep of facility security systems, fire alarm systems, and fire extinguishers.
  • Take immediate action to correct any safety noncompliance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write English and perform basic math.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of custodial methods and basic handyman ability.
  • Proven ability to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of safety and cost containment programs is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills in a Windows environment.
  • Willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the San Francisco SPCA.
