About the Role
Sesame is seeking its first dedicated mobile automation engineer to enhance test coverage, improve failure triage, and ensure higher-quality releases for its iOS and Android voice companion app. This role involves defining automation strategies, assessing release readiness, and collaborating across teams to deliver an exceptional product experience.
Responsibilities
- Build and own iOS and Android test automation within the CI pipeline.
- Provide reliable quality signals for nightly, weekly, and release builds, differentiating between sanity checks, regression tests, and manual testing.
- Maintain parity between iOS and Android test automation.
- Automate key user flows such as onboarding, text and voice chats, payments, notifications, and settings, verifying functional correctness beyond UI display.
- Document failures clearly for engineers to resolve without reproduction.
- Assist in automatic bug triage, distinguishing between app, backend, OS, device, network, and test-harness issues.
- Enhance test robustness and reliability through improved isolation, stable test data, stronger validation, and strategic retries.
- Synchronize dashboard, TestRail, known issues, and release notes to accurately reflect release risks.
- Collaborate with app engineers to migrate checks to unit or integration test layers where appropriate.
Requirements
- 7-8 years in software QA/test engineering.
- 4+ years building mobile test automation for iOS and/or Android.
- Hands-on experience with at least one mobile automation framework (e.g., XCUITest, XCTest, Espresso, Appium, Maestro, Detox).
- Proficiency in scripting/programming for building harnesses and tools.
- Experience integrating tests into CI/CD or release pipelines.
- Ability to debug flaky tests and provide actionable insights to engineers.
- Understanding of release risk assessment and test prioritization.
- Comfort working with frequent build changes and evolving specifications.
