About the Role
We are a venture-backed robotics company building multi-mission ground robots for demanding and hazardous environments such as emergency response, industrial operations, and defense. We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to own the software for our electro-mechanical systems, with significant autonomy in defining, testing, and deploying solutions. You will collaborate with hardware engineers to enhance user data collection, platform teleoperation, and modular sensor integration.
Responsibilities
- Understand system requirements, challenge scope, and translate requirements into reliable end-to-end solutions.
- Partner with teammates and end users to design critical features.
- Prototype, validate, and iteratively refine features across the full stack.
- Develop lightweight frontends to demonstrate and simulate feature utility.
- Test features in lab and simulated environments prior to real-world deployment.
- Optimize software for network communications performance and reliability.
- Debug complex issues identified during testing or field operation.
- Collaborate with hardware system owners on integration and issue resolution.
- Write essential documentation communicating design intent.
Requirements
- Experience with ROS (ROS 1 and/or ROS 2) for robot software integration.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded software development on robotics platforms.
- Hands-on experience with data collection, teleoperation, and modular sensor integration in robotic systems.
- Experience developing and testing software in both simulated and real-world environments.
- Strong Linux platform experience for development and deployment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with electrical and mechanical engineers on hardware-software integration.
- Familiarity with Python.
- Familiarity with basic web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for prototyping frontends.
- Background from aerospace, defense, or industrial robotics environments.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
