About the Role

Workato is seeking a talented Software Engineer to help build the distributed backend for its AI agent platform and developer-facing products. This role involves working on event-driven services, real-time integrations, and APIs for reliable agent performance and rapid scaling.

Responsibilities

Build and enhance scalable backend services for distributed environments.
Develop developer-facing APIs, integrations, and tooling.
Integrate LLMs and agentic workflows into production applications.
Contribute across the full software development lifecycle.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
Troubleshoot production issues, improve system reliability, and optimize performance.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, AI researchers, and engineers.

Requirements

3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Proficiency in Python or another modern programming language.
Strong understanding of backend software engineering fundamentals.
Experience building backend services or APIs, preferably in cloud environments.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures, messaging systems, streaming, or asynchronous processing is a plus.
Experience deploying or supporting applications in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
Exposure to Kubernetes, containers, or modern infrastructure tooling is desirable.
Experience with observability tools, logging, metrics, or debugging production systems is a plus.
Experience building or supporting developer-facing products is highly desirable.
Hands-on experience with LLMs, AI applications, RAG, MCP, or agentic systems is a strong plus.
Demonstrates ownership and effective collaboration.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Product-minded and curious about technical impacts.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
AI-native—uses modern AI development tools to improve productivity.
