About the Role

Environment for the Americas in partnership with Golden Gate National Recreation Area Museum seeks to engage young professionals in resource management careers. This position supports natural resource stewardship projects in San Mateo County, focusing on conservation of rare and endangered plants and animals.

Responsibilities

• Habitat restoration and revegetation including mapping, erosion control, seed collection and sowing, and container planting.
• Invasive plant control using hand tools, power tools, and herbicide if qualified.
• Volunteer or contractor oversight.
• Vegetation mapping and monitoring, including plant populations and communities, and GIS mapping and analysis.
• Wildlife monitoring for species such as California red-legged frog, San Bruno elfin butterfly, mission blue butterfly, mammals, and pollinators.
• Data collection and quality control.
• Tool maintenance.
• Vehicle operations, including towing.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
• Must be between the ages of 18 - 30 (35 if a veteran).
• Must undergo a background check if selected.
• Must have a valid driver’s license to operate a government vehicle.
• Must have access to a personal vehicle (recommended).
• An active interest in plants, ecology, and habitat restoration.
• Experience working outdoors in challenging environmental conditions (inclement weather, off-trail, steep slopes, dense vegetation, etc.).
• Ability to carry up to 30 pounds.
• Basic computer literacy, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Ability to work well in a team while balancing individual responsibilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be in good physical condition.
• A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
