About the Role

As a Fire Surveyor, you will provide critical technical support to engineers, surveyors, and clients UK-wide. You will conduct on-site fire inspections and surveys, including external wall surveys, fire stopping, fire compartmentation, and fire door inspections, ultimately supporting Jensen Hughes' fire safety disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out active and passive fire protection systems surveys and producing technical reports.
  • Assessing compliance with British Fire Safety Legislation and standards such as Approved Document B (ADB), BS9999, BS9991 & BS7974.
  • Updating the passive fire protection technical knowledge base with industry updates.
  • Undertaking external façade assessments and survey investigations using methodologies like PAS 9980 and the EWS1 process.
  • Assisting with quality assurance processes and validation.
  • Undertaking Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Performing third-party oversight of fire stopping and fire compartmentation installations.
  • Liaising with product manufacturers to discuss tested details supporting on-site installations.
  • Conducting visual fire door inspections and identifying non-conformities with BS8214.
  • Managing a client base and exceeding client expectations.
  • Staying updated with industry guidance and product literature, and sharing knowledge internally.
  • Traveling regularly to client sites for surveys and meetings.

Requirements

  • Degree educated in Building Surveying, Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Management, or a similar discipline.
  • Understanding of fire safety design and guidance for various building types.
  • Experience conducting surveys on diverse new and existing buildings (high-rise residential, offices, retail, storage, historic).
  • Experience undertaking fire compartmentation surveys and advising contractors.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, fire performance of external wall materials, and cavity barrier installations.
  • Knowledge of internal passive fire protection products, fire testing regimes, and their application.
  • Experience managing/advising contractors on-site.
  • Full UK driving licence.
