About the Role

As a Sr Certification Engineer, you will play an important support role in the New Product Development and Product Sustaining processes. This role supports the complete AHRI audit process for multiple product platforms across Carrier’s portfolio, with an emphasis on VRF & Ductless air conditioning and heat pump equipment. You will also contribute to the statistical analysis of test data and identify/drive process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the AHRI certification database for the DLS & VRF product offering.
  • Support the VRF & VMHP AHRI audit process, including equipment selection, ordering, and witnessing 3rd party laboratory testing.
  • Oversee the organization’s audit program and communicate updates to leadership.
  • Perform internal lab correlation activities to ensure data integrity across multiple locations.
  • Support laboratory team capability improvement projects.
  • Participate in codes and standards development, focusing on AHRI 1230 STC and the Compliance Committee.
  • Perform reviews and root cause analysis on failures, near misses, and issues arising from audit testing.
  • Provide seismic and wind load testing and certification support for the DLS / VRF portfolio.
  • Support the organization’s initiative to use statistics and variation as a driver in new product development and sustaining activities.
  • Work closely with product development engineers, Product Management, and Marketing to generate and document official product rating and certification information.
  • Implement Carrier Excellence tools to drive continuous improvement into existing processes.
  • Provide product safety support for the VRF / DLS team, coordinating and performing testing for root cause determination of reported failures.
  • Provide NPD support for codes, standards, and regulation interpretation and project requirements identification.
  • Participate in product safety and design reviews to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and internal requirements.
  • Support field inquiries by working with Product Management, Sales, and Service teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in an HVAC testing environment or HVAC engineering
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 20%, domestic and international
  • Demonstrated refrigeration, mechanical, and electrical background
  • Willing to attend off-hours meetings with global Carrier engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Self-starter with ability to learn quickly and work independently under minimum to moderate direction
  • Capable of receiving feedback and being mentored by a senior level engineer
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow, and heat transfer
  • Solid technical skills and analytical proficiency
  • Understand basic electronic controls function in HVAC equipment
  • Experience in new product development or testing environment
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions
  • At least 5+ years of mechanical experience
  • Understanding of the requirements to properly certify HVAC equipment for performance and safety
  • Direct experience in the testing of HVAC equipment including commercial air handling equipment, packaged and split air conditioners, heat pumps, DX or water coils, furnaces, and fans.
  • Comfortable working on teams providing and receiving input from multiple team members
  • ASHRAE affiliation a plus
  • Experience working with 3rd party laboratories a plus
  • Knowledge of statistics and product variability
