About the Role

Spark Advisors is seeking an owner for its finance operating system, focusing on systems, standards, and controls for accurate commissions and agency-finance. This role will re-architect current processes into scalable, auditable systems and evolve to include accounting and controllership functions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the finance operating system, transforming manual processes into scalable, auditable systems for commissions, marketing co-op, and reconciliation.
  • Set finance requirements for the Data team's commissions database/calculator and own build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Own financial accuracy end-to-end, setting and enforcing standards, controls, and reconciliation frameworks.
  • Own accounting & controllership directly, including AR, AP, and payroll standards and outcomes.
  • Own and evolve the outsourced controllership relationship, directing and reviewing external accounting firm's work.
  • Own reporting integrity, ensuring trustworthy and timely financials and reporting.
  • Provide systems for hands-on commission processing, disbursement, and banking runs.

Requirements

  • 8-12+ years in finance/accounting operations with experience designing and building systems for complex, high-volume transaction or payments engines.
  • Proficiency in systems/process design, accounting fluency (close, controls, GAAP), and operational depth to set and enforce standards for AR/AP/payroll.
  • Track record of building from scratch in a fast-scaling, still-messy environment.
  • Strong data/analytical skills, fluent in Excel, and comfortable partnering with a data team on SQL/warehouse-backed reconciliation.
