About the Role
Flow Traders is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Research Engineering department. This role focuses on people management, project delivery, team growth, performance, and culture, partnering with technical leads on architecture and execution. The primary focus is on developing engineers and ensuring team outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap, managing priorities, planning, and sequencing of work in line with company goals.
- Develop engineers through career planning, promotions, coaching, and performance management.
- Plan and build the team, leading hiring, headcount planning, and resource allocation.
- Cultivate a healthy team culture, morale, and productivity, addressing conflict constructively.
- Lead with rhythm through regular one-on-ones, clear feedback, and team building.
- Translate technical and business requirements into clear delivery plans, identifying dependencies and risks.
- Act as a liaison between Engineering, Trading, and Quant teams to design and roll out new products.
- Drive delivery predictability by tracking progress, managing risk and scope trade-offs, and reporting status.
- Continuously improve delivery processes and team velocity.
- Ensure alignment of team's work with organizational goals and delivery timelines, collaborating with Tech Leads and Staff Engineers.
Requirements
- Strong people-leadership skills including coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and fostering a thriving engineer environment.
- Strong project management skills with experience in roadmap building, work sequencing, dependency and risk management, and driving delivery predictability.
- A technical or research background sufficient for credible technical discussions and to earn engineer respect.
- Demonstrated experience leading, growing, and managing the performance of applied researchers and software engineers.
- A track record of delivering applied research through a team, balancing scope, quality, and timelines.
- Sound judgment in hiring and developing talent.
- Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including managing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Based in Amsterdam, or willing to relocate.
