About the Role
Morden College seeks an experienced Communications Manager to create clear, engaging, and impactful communications that inform, connect, and involve residents and colleagues in the organization's future. This collaborative role will bring the strategy, values, and ambitions to life through communications that build understanding, trust, and a shared sense of purpose, supporting colleagues and leaders in effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Develop a structured, consistent, and audience-focused approach to communications across Morden College.
- Create communication plans, schedules, and content calendars.
- Establish clear processes for requesting, developing, and approving communications.
- Introduce guidance on lead times, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Support teams in proactive communication planning.
- Develop templates, tools, and guidance to improve communication quality and consistency.
- Build understanding of effective collaboration with the Communications function.
- Support the development and effective use of digital communication systems, including CRM-based platforms.
- Work collaboratively to ensure communication systems support accurate information management, effective targeting, and a positive user experience.
- Use insight, feedback, and engagement data to continually improve communications and strengthen audience engagement.
- Capture engaging and high-quality communications for residents and colleagues.
- Create content for resident newsletters, website stories, organizational updates, annual reports, impact reporting, and stories celebrating residents, colleagues, and partners.
- Develop communications about strategic priorities, service improvements, and organizational change.
- Create content demonstrating Morden College's evolution in supporting people in later life.
- Develop and maintain website and resident portal content.
- Create accessible communications for residents using various channels.
- Support resident meetings, engagement activities, and events.
- Deliver information campaigns across communities.
- Ensure communications are inclusive, accessible, and easy to understand.
- Deliver effective internal communications, including SharePoint intranet content, CEO updates, leadership communications, staff briefings, organizational announcements, and change communications.
- Support HR with colleague engagement initiatives.
- Promote good information-sharing and best practice in document management.
- Support leaders and teams in effectively communicating organizational change, including progress on strategic priorities, new services, technology adoption, sustainability efforts, and service improvements.
- Champion high-quality communications by promoting brand guidance and tone of voice.
- Support colleagues in communicating effectively and confidently.
- Encourage accessible communication practices.
- Develop templates, guidance, and communication resources.
- Promote high standards of writing, editing, and content creation.
- Arrange and utilize high-quality photography, video, and visual content.
- Support effective communication planning and coordination across the organization.
Requirements
- Experience working in a communications role, particularly internal communications, colleague engagement, or organizational communications.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience creating engaging communications across a range of channels and audiences.
- Experience developing communication plans and coordinating communications activity.
- Experience managing websites, newsletters, intranets, or other communication platforms.
- Ability to understand complex information and translate it into clear, accessible, and engaging messages.
- Experience building effective relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Understanding of inclusive and accessible communication practices.
- A proactive, collaborative, and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience working in a charity, housing, care, health, community, or similar organization (desirable).
- Experience communicating with residents, service users, or community groups (desirable).
- Experience supporting organizational change and engagement activities (desirable).
- Experience using SharePoint, CRM systems, or similar intranet platforms (desirable).
- Experience using audience insight and analytics to improve engagement (desirable).
- Understanding of GDPR, information-sharing, and good digital practice (desirable).
- Experience supporting the development or implementation of CRM systems, customer databases, or digital engagement platforms (desirable).
- Understanding of digital inclusion and approaches to increasing confidence in using technology (desirable).
