About the Role

Standard Bots is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to bridge the gap between design and production. This role involves ensuring the manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of PCBAs, both for in-house SMT lines and contract manufacturers. You will be responsible for DFM reviews, SMT process ownership, and driving continuous improvement in electronics manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DFM review of PCB designs, including layouts, footprints, stack-ups, and fabrication/assembly packages.
  • Provide clear DFM/DFA and DFT feedback to electrical engineers, driving issues to resolution.
  • Automate and execute systematic, rule-based DFM/DFA checks using automated tooling.
  • Partner with electrical engineering to integrate test coverage and access into designs.
  • Own and uphold the DFM rule set for component spacing, panelization, fiducials, and land patterns.
  • Ensure all output packages (Gerbers, BOM, pick-and-place) are complete and manufacturable.
  • Own SMT/PCBA process engineering for the in-house line, including stencil/paste, placement, reflow, SPI, AOI, and rework.
  • Drive process control, first-pass yield, and defect reduction.
  • Bring up, verify, and debug boards on the bench using lab instruments.
  • Define test procedures and assist in standing up automated/functional test.
  • Partner with electrical engineering through NPI, from prototypes to volume production.
  • Act as the liaison between electrical engineering and the production floor.
  • Serve as the manufacturing engineering interface to external contract manufacturers.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of solder and assembly defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Continuously improve DFM standards based on lessons learned.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 4+ years in electronics/PCBA manufacturing engineering with hands-on SMT line process ownership.
  • Demonstrated DFM/DFA expertise with a track record of improving designs before release.
  • Fluency with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7351, IPC-2221, J-STD-001).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication/assembly drawings, BOMs, and stack-ups.
  • Hands-on command of the SMT process, including diagnosing common defects.
  • Proficiency with DFM-check tooling (Valor, CAM350, Allegro DFM, or equivalent).
  • DFT fluency, including designing in test coverage and access.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical test and measurement instruments.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing manufacturing output packages for internal and external manufacturing.
  • Constructive and direct communication style.
