About the Role

The Guardian is seeking a video producer to work on its politics podcasts. This role involves planning, filming, and editing podcast episodes, creating social media content, visualizing interviews, and documenting events like by-elections. The producer will contribute to the always-on Politics Weekly UK podcast and potentially other Guardian podcasts and video projects, collaborating with various departments for promotion.

Responsibilities

Generating ideas for podcast episodes
Researching topics for podcast episodes
Briefing presenters and guests for interviews
Filming podcast episodes in studio or remotely
Scripting podcast episodes
Editing and mixing podcast episodes to professional standards
Meeting tight deadlines for podcast production
Booking on-air contributors, both internal and external
Collaborating with other producers, executive producers, and hosts
Ensuring high levels of creativity, editorial, and legal standards
Actively participating in the Guardian’s multimedia team
Showcasing Guardian journalism and values in audio and video form
Contributing to and producing other Guardian podcasts and video or social video projects
Working with other Guardian departments including marketing and membership for discoverability and promotion

Requirements

At least two years of experience in video podcasting or broadcast news
Experience with Adobe audio and video editing software
Ability to edit smoothly and accurately at pace
Experience in analyzing and responding to audience data such as YouTube analytics
Ability to write engaging scripts
Ability to bring the best out of on-air contributors
An interest and knowledge of UK and global politics
Proven capacity to deliver high-quality outputs under strict, recurring deadlines
Great journalistic instincts and editorial rigor
Knowledge and understanding of media law
Creativity to find new angles on major news stories
Demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role (ideal)
