About the Role

As an Animal Care Technician- Canine, you will play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of animal welfare and public safety by ensuring the daily care, cleanliness, and well-being of our dogs. This position works collaboratively to maintain a safe, positive, and enriching environment for every dog in our care while supporting responsible adoption practices.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and enforce shelter protocols for cleaning, feeding, enrichment, and handling in alignment with ASV Guidelines.
  • Monitor the health, behavior, and well-being of dogs and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and humane environment for dogs, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Ensure that all practices support responsible adoptions and prioritize public safety.
  • Ensure effective communication, teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to the shelter’s mission and best-practice principles.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ASV Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters and commitment to implementing best practices.
  • Strong work ethic; dependable, reliable, and accountable.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and leadership.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor, even in high-stress or challenging situations.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform other physically demanding tasks as required.
  • Regular exposure to animals with varying temperaments and to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Comfortable walking dogs and maintaining outdoor runs in all weather conditions.
  • Routine use of cleaning agents, disinfectants, and other shelter maintenance materials.
