About the Role

This is a commercial counsel role with significant breadth and ownership, reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel. The role involves owning commercial contracts end-to-end, acting as a trusted business partner, and leading cross-functional projects independently. It offers variety, ownership, and the opportunity to manage work from initial scoping to completion.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts independently, including customer MSAs, public procurement frameworks, supplier T&Cs, professional services agreements, NDAs, and RFPs/bids.
• Act as a key legal partner to the Go-To-Market sales team, providing proactive, commercially-minded guidance and leading customer negotiations.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and proactively identify and mitigate risks, exercising sound judgment on escalation and independent resolution.
• Balance competing priorities across commercial deals, cross-functional projects, and business-as-usual legal work, utilizing AI tools for efficiency.
• Advise Product/Tech teams on legal issues related to product development, feature launches, and platform decisions.
• Review AI-related contractual provisions concerning IP ownership, liability, indemnities, and ethical use, advising on safe contracting for AI-driven products and services.
• Stay current on emerging AI regulation, market norms, and evolving legal standards.
• Support the management of Multiverse's IP portfolio, including trademark protection and licensing provisions.
• Own and drive cross-functional legal projects from scoping through to delivery, managing deadlines and stakeholder communication with minimal supervision.
• Take ownership of internal legal resources, such as playbooks and clause libraries, and help establish agile, tech-enabled processes using AI.
• Support other lawyers and provide guidance to the paralegal, contributing to team capability development.
• Design and deliver training to supported teams on key legal, commercial, and regulatory topics.
• Partner with the Privacy team on data protection requirements for products and commercial agreements.
• Provide legal support to People, Privacy & Compliance, Finance, and Operations/Delivery/Learning teams, adapting to different practice areas.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with approximately 3-5 years of post-qualification experience.
• Strong private practice background, ideally from a leading national or international law firm.
• Ideally at least 1 year of in-house experience, preferably at a SaaS/technology company.
• Comfort leveraging legal technology and generative AI tools for contract review, drafting, and legal operations.
• Strong end-to-end B2B commercial contracts experience for both customers and suppliers.
• Solid GDPR and data privacy knowledge and experience working on data protection matters in a commercial context.
• Demonstrable ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, working autonomously under time pressure with strong attention to detail.
• Solid understanding of balancing business needs with risk assessment.
• Familiarity with or strong interest in the AI legal landscape, including regulation and advising on AI products and services.
• Experience with or exposure to M&A, corporate governance, or regulatory compliance is advantageous.
• Autonomous execution of delegated work, escalating when appropriate.
• Commercial pragmatism, identifying real risks and proposing practical solutions.
• Ability to build stakeholder credibility and communicate clearly and concisely to both legal and non-legal audiences.
• Team player with a flexible, 'can-do' approach.
• Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a love for solving problems and staying current on AI and technology's impact on legal practice.
