About the Role
The New York Power Authority is seeking a skilled individual to perform mechanical, civil, and structural construction, maintenance, and repair work on project features within a hydroelectric power plant. This role involves working with various machinery, equipment, and structures, requiring a diverse skill set including welding, assembly, repair, and inspection.
Responsibilities
- Performs all types of mechanical, civil and structural construction, maintenance and repair work on project features including reservoir, concrete dams, powerhouse, appurtenant structures and buildings, with marine equipment and all fixed or movable machinery and other equipment.
- Performs welding tasks using various techniques such as TIG, MIG, SMAW (stick), and GMAW.
- Assembles, repairs, and maintains turbine components, penstocks, intake structures, generator frames, and other metal assemblies exposed to high pressure, water, and temperature variations.
- Inspects and assesses the condition of machinery, equipment, and structures to determine repair or replacement needs.
- Follows blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications to ensure precision and compliance with requirements.
- Operates and maintains welding equipment, tools, and safety systems in accordance with OSHA and plant-specific regulations.
- Works in confined spaces, high-pressure areas, and challenging weather conditions, following strict safety protocols.
- Collaborates with maintenance teams to resolve operational issues and ensure plant uptime.
Requirements
- Successful completion of apprenticeship as a welder or closely related discipline.
- 4 years of experience at the journeyperson level in the welder specialty.
- Must be able to perform mechanical maintenance functions within a hydroelectric power plant.
