About the Role
Join Team Snap as a Privacy Counsel, advising on privacy and AI law and compliance in EMEA. Collaborate with Product, Legal, Engineering, Design, and other teams to support Snap's privacy and AI practices, including its safety-by-design program.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Snap is advised on privacy and AI laws, focusing on EU GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, EU AI Act, and other EMEA data protection and AI laws.
- Partner with Snap’s global Policy team to interact with regulators and ensure compliance with privacy and AI laws.
- Anticipate and prepare for changes in data protection and AI law globally.
- Support the creation of compliance strategies for new global privacy and AI legislation and recommend modifications to products and practices.
- Partner with Product Legal Counsel and Safety and Law Enforcement Operations Counsel on privacy and AI law issues.
- Provide guidance to ops teams on managing Snap’s and its affiliates’ privacy and AI compliance programs, including data subject access requests.
- Conduct privacy and AI impact assessments.
- Partner with Commercial Legal team to align contracts and policies with privacy, security, and AI laws.
- Counsel and work closely with Security teams for security and privacy incident response and investigations.
- Advise on global cybersecurity laws, regulations, and frameworks.
Requirements
- Qualified, practising solicitor or equivalent with excellent academic credentials.
- 6+ years of experience in an international setting (includes training years).
- In-house experience counselling clients on privacy, cybersecurity, and AI matters (this could be via secondment).
- Experience advising social media, adtech, or AI companies.
- Experience supporting the business in building positive relationships with regulators to achieve business goals and minimise risk.
- Experience coordinating across different jurisdictions and developing company-wide strategies for compliance, taking into account diverse jurisdictions and requirements.
- Strong understanding of artificial intelligence and associated ecosystem from a technical perspective, including challenges and opportunities.
Skills
- Solid experience advising on global privacy and AI issues.
- Good knowledge of global privacy and AI laws, regulations, and industry guidelines for online platforms.
- Social media, adtech, or AI experience is a plus.
- Excellent legal and business judgment and critical thinking.
- Able to communicate with internal and external partners on sophisticated and multifaceted issues.
- Pragmatic, business-friendly, and a great teammate.
- Ability to think creatively.
- Ability to accommodate often challenging timelines.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
