About the Role

Operating within Camden’s daytime noise and pollution team, this role involves regulating noise, nuisance, and pollution, including construction, licensed applications, domestic noise, planning applications, environmental pollution, and contaminated land. The position requires an experienced, fully qualified, and authorized officer to manage noise and pollution functions, provide support to the Public Protection service, and respond flexibly to environmental and public health needs.

Responsibilities

Investigate and resolve complaints and service requests related to pollution.
Conduct routine and unplanned site visits and inspections to ensure legislative compliance.
Investigate, negotiate, and mediate between parties.
Utilize legal enforcement powers, including case preparation and court presentation.
Present evidence in court and at licensing and planning committees.
Develop and deliver special projects, policy, and research.
Write reports and provide resolution, preventative, and advisory work.
Work flexibly to meet evolving service demands.
Assist in developing a culture of knowledge and experience sharing.
Share responsibility for decision-making on complex issues.
Deputize for managers as appropriate.

Requirements

Hold relevant specialist qualifications (BSc/MSc or Diploma in Environmental Health and the EHRB Certificate of Registration or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience).
Be competent in the full range of noise and pollution requirements.
Ideally hold relevant qualifications/experience in noise and nuisance, contaminated land, or environmental permitting.
Possess excellent knowledge/understanding of the relevant legislative framework and experience in its application.
Experience in dealing with difficult and complex cases.
Ability to deliver innovative interventions.
Experience preparing complex legislative documentation.
Experience reporting and recommending enforcement action.
Experience attending court.
Ability to prepare detailed and accurate written and verbal responses.
Track record of working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
Demonstrate good outcome-focused customer care and communication skills.
Ability to identify innovative and creative approaches to complaints and Camden objectives.
Ability to take an organized approach to workload while managing conflicting priorities.
Ensure a customer service-focused approach.
