About the Role
This Staff-level role owns the reliability, performance, security, and integrity of the analytical data platform (Mystra) and its agentic layer (MystraAI) end-to-end, setting the technical direction for other teams. You will lead the analytical data platform and Data-as-a-Service offering, shape the data foundations behind MystraAI, and line-manage a small team of engineers while remaining deeply hands-on. This role is ideal for someone who wants their work to sit at the intersection of large-scale infrastructure and meaningful science.
Responsibilities
- Architect, tune, and operate multi-tenant ClickHouse or equivalent OLAP database clusters at multi-trillion-row, petabyte scale.
- Own SLOs, observability, capacity planning, and incident response for data-intensive systems and pipelines.
- Shape Data-as-a-Service as a real product, including a secure, multi-tenant, immutable release architecture.
- Scale the data foundations behind MystraAI and own secure, tenant-scoped access for agents.
- Treat security as a first-class architectural concern, focusing on tenant isolation, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
- Set technical direction, mentor, and line-manage a small team of engineers.
- Influence decisions well beyond your own team.
Requirements
- Recognised specialist who leads through expertise with principal-level individual-contributor depth.
- Deep experience designing and tuning multi-tenant ClickHouse at extreme scale.
- Experience with SRE discipline (SLOs, observability, capacity planning, incident response) for analytical data systems and pipelines.
- Experience productizing Data-as-a-Service, considering secure, multi-tenant, immutable releases, and discoverability.
- Understanding of exposing platform data to agents safely and at scale, including access patterns, tenant isolation, and guardrails.
- Experience designing for multi-tenant security, including isolation, least-privilege access, and secrets management.
- Experience driving technical direction and innovation across a platform.
- Experience mentoring engineers.
- Experience line-managing a small team without losing hands-on edge.
