About the Role
As a Data Scientist in the Financial Crime Solutions team, you will help build systems to detect financial crime and fraud using payments data. You will collaborate with engineers, operations, sales, and product teams to understand criminal behaviors and develop new products and services.
Responsibilities
- Perform proof-of-concept projects, engage in product design, and build prototypes.
- Develop new algorithms using data science techniques for financial crime products.
- Conduct research to understand criminal behaviors in payments data.
- Translate insights into new products and services for clients.
- Learn and engage with new and existing technology stacks.
- Write white papers, patents, and client-facing data visualizations.
- Consider the impact of work on privacy, security, regulation, code performance, and model accuracy.
Requirements
- Passion for designing algorithms to solve real-world problems using data.
- Interest in the financial services industry and combating financial crime.
- Excitement for building products for clients and engaging in design processes.
- Ability to communicate technical matters to non-technical colleagues.
- Comfortable exploring new programming languages, technologies, and techniques.
- Can-do attitude, pragmatism, and ability to work as part of a specialist team.
- Willingness to engage in constructive criticism and code reviews.
- Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices.

Skills
- Python programming to a high standard.
- Familiarity with data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn, networkx).
- Ability to develop new algorithms in novel situations.
- Understanding of data modeling and behavior analysis.
- Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, online algorithms, Bloom Filters) is desirable.
- Experience with next-generation machine learning (Deep Neural Networks, TensorFlow) is desirable.
- Exposure to Network Theory (social network analysis, graph diffusion analysis) is desirable.
- Ability to build custom data visualizations.
- Ability to prototype browser-based UX/UI.
- Ability to build server-side microservices.
