About the Role

The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician provides safe patient care in an outpatient infusion center, administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other targeted therapies. This role involves addressing patient and family needs, serving as a clinical resource, and upholding professional nursing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice and critical thinking.
  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that is culturally sensitive and age-appropriate.
  • Partners with patients and families to set goals and provide education.
  • Practices using current clinical practice standards, including chemotherapy and targeted therapies.
  • Meets annual requirements for chemotherapy competence.
  • Coordinates and documents safe, quality patient care, promoting interdisciplinary communication.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration, practicing in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Participates in performance improvement, research, and research utilization activities.
  • Completes all required professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
  • Serves as a preceptor or mentor for other healthcare professionals.
  • Cultivates oncology nursing knowledge through continuing education and specialty certification.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
  • Upholds all health care system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies.
  • Participates in data collection and poses relevant clinical questions to advance evidence-based practice.
  • Consults appropriate experts and uses resources to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum.
  • Participates in the development of protocols and procedures.
  • Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an RN in Georgia.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Chemotherapy Competency required through an approved provider (ONS or WellStar ONRS) upon hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to coordinate inter- and intra-departmental patient care activities.
  • Delegation skills as permitted by the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act and Wellstar policy.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail in patient care and nursing skills.
  • Possess time management skills.
  • Computer skills required, including typing, scanning, and mouse usage.
  • Ability to be trained to handle Hazardous Drugs per USP guidelines.
  • Local travel required.
  • Float staff may be required to float between Cobb Hospital HOD's based on need.
