About the Role

Strategic Mission Critical (SMC) is seeking a Senior Level Power Studies Engineer to direct and execute electrical power studies for mission critical projects, including data centers and hyperscale facilities. This role involves leading a team, interfacing with clients and stakeholders, and contributing to the growth of the company's power studies expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and execute electrical power studies, coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and clients, meeting scheduled project deadlines.
  • Develop and complete power studies for mission critical buildings and campuses, including campus level medium voltage distribution, highly redundant power systems, on-site generation and UPS backup, and typical house power distribution systems.
  • Coordinate with electrical design leads, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to collect information for system models.
  • Review client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices to ensure power system design meets requirements.
  • Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications related to electrical power studies.
  • Utilize SKM, ETAP, Reliasoft BlockSim, and other specialized tools to complete studies.
  • Use Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
  • Travel to project sites when required (typically less than 5%).
  • Communicate clearly in written and spoken forms.
  • Lead other engineers and designers, coordinating multiple teams to execute project delivery simultaneously.
  • Mentor and train other engineers and designers to develop electrical power studies knowledge.
  • Maintain excellent organizational skills and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred; 2-year degrees and EET degrees with work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design, particularly using SKM to complete power system studies.
  • Experience in electrical power studies such as short circuit, coordination, and arc flash for larger industrial and commercial buildings (greater than 1000 buses) is preferred.
  • Experience in mission critical design (including multiple scenarios, alternate power paths, and complex topologies) is a strong plus.
  • Experience performing and reviewing Neher-McGrath underground thermal studies is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists is a plus.
  • Experience leading small teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud is a plus.
  • Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred; unlicensed candidates with appropriate on-the-job experience are welcome to apply.
