About the Role
We are hiring a Software Engineer, Robotics Platform to scale our fleet of robots. This role is on-site five days a week in San Francisco. The robot platform is the foundation layer for our entire robotics stack and ML models, encompassing robot compute, OS, middleware, and networking. You will own this platform, ensuring it is a stable and performant base for our algorithms. The work involves low-level system software, sensor logging, debugging, and performance analysis in collaboration with senior engineers. Our next-generation platform is a greenfield project, applying lessons learned from our current production platform to a clean-sheet design, focusing on an experiment-learn loop.
Responsibilities
- Architect and build our next-generation robotics platform, spanning compute, OS, middleware, and networking, incorporating lessons learned into a clean-sheet design.
- Build infrastructure and frameworks for the entire software lifecycle of a robot, from provisioning to ongoing software updates, in collaboration with manufacturing.
- Lead an upgrade of our autonomy software OS and middleware.
- Integrate new robot hardware, sensors, and cameras, and monitor performance.
- Investigate, debug, and fix complex low-level systems software problems and performance issues, including drivers, networking, and Linux configuration.
Requirements
- Strong experience and expertise in Linux systems, including building complex software.
- Strong systems programming skills in C, C++, or Rust.
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience leading and shipping complex software projects.
- Experience deploying and managing software across networked edge devices or with ROS 2 middleware.
