About the Role
We are seeking a Creative Director to lead creative for AI Experiences (AIX) at Microsoft. This role involves setting a visual and narrative point of view for how people experience AI and driving a team to execute this vision across product, marketing, campaigns, and live events. The ideal candidate is a hands-on maker with the taste of a world-class art director, storytelling instincts, leadership experience, and a strong connection to culture.
Responsibilities
- Set the creative vision for AI Experiences, including visual language, tone, and narrative point of view across product, brand, and marketing.
- Provide high-level art direction, shaping and elevating design work in visual identity, motion, typography, and UI.
- Remain hands-on with the creative craft, contributing directly to concepts and designs when necessary.
- Lead and grow a visually-focused creative team, including hiring, mentoring, and fostering a thriving environment for world-class visual work.
- Collaborate with Creative Strategy and Brand Writing leads to ensure cohesive development of strategy, words, and images.
- Build and leverage relationships with top-tier creative agencies, production partners, and talent.
- Ensure a consistent creative thread from product experience to marketing campaigns.
- Design across digital and physical mediums, including in-product moments, digital campaigns, launch events, and physical installations.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, engineering, research, and marketing leadership to align creative ambition with product reality.
- Represent the creative studio internally and externally, presenting work and advocating for craft.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 7+ years of experience in product or service design.
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 9+ years of experience in product or service design.
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).
- 5+ years of people management experience.
- 15+ years in design and art direction, including significant time as a creative leader (Creative Director, Executive Creative Director, or equivalent) at an agency, in-house studio, or brand.
- A distinctive visual point of view, demonstrated through a portfolio showing range across brand identity, digital product, campaign, and physical/experiential work.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels, from sketching to setting strategy with senior executives.
- Exceptional presentation skills and the ability to champion bold creative ideas with senior leadership.
- Strong sensibility for story and language.
- Experience leading and growing creative teams, including hiring, mentoring, and managing multidisciplinary talent.
- Comfort spanning product and marketing disciplines.
- Cultural fluency, demonstrated through active engagement with music, entertainment, fashion, or adjacent creative communities.
- Track record of shipping ambitious creative work at scale, ideally with public recognition.
- Comfort operating in a large, matrixed organization while protecting creative vision integrity.
- Experience directing creative for AI or emerging-technology products.
- A personal creative practice, project, or venture that signals genuine cultural engagement.
- Experience directing physical/experiential work, installations, events, retail, or spatial design.
