About the Role

The Senior Underwriter evaluates and underwrites Middle Market technology accounts, applying sound judgment and financial, operational, exposure, industry, and claims information to make data-driven decisions on risk selection, coverage, terms, conditions, and pricing. This role requires applying knowledge of the technology sector and Middle Market insurance products to assess various exposures and exercises sound underwriting judgment while balancing growth, profitability, customer needs, and the company's risk appetite.

Responsibilities

Underwrite Middle Market technology accounts within established authority, making analytical, data-driven decisions on risk selection, coverage, terms, conditions, and pricing with limited guidance.
Evaluate technology-sector exposures, including software and technology services, cloud computing, data centers, telecommunications, technology consulting, intellectual property, and professional services.
Manage a portfolio of brokers, agents, and clients by developing strong market relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and representing the company.
Underwrite new business, renewals, and account changes by analyzing financials, exposure data, loss history, risk controls, valuations, and evolving technology-related dependencies.
Monitor portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, emerging exposures, regulatory developments, and loss trends; recommend actions to support profitable growth and portfolio quality.
Contribute to product development, process and tool improvements, and department initiatives.
Collaborate with UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, Product, Distribution, and underwriting leaders.
Mentor junior underwriters and new hires by sharing expertise in technology risks, underwriting practices, systems, and market dynamics.

Requirements

Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks.
Competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process.
Proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques.
Demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues.
Capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows.
Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
