About the Role
The Manager of Revenue Accounting will be a key contributor supporting end-to-end revenue recognition and patient accounting processes for Aspen Dental. This role ensures the accuracy and maintenance of net revenue recognition policies, supports internal controls, and acts as a liaison between various departments and external auditors.
Responsibilities
- Support and enforce accounting policies and internal controls for GAAP compliance in revenue recognition and patient accounting.
- Build and maintain allowance models segmented by payor class and aging, reconciling them to financials monthly.
- Maintain collection waterfall models tracking charges, contractual adjustments, expected collections, and write-offs, performing variance analysis.
- Develop dashboards and trend reporting to monitor models and financials, proactively identifying changes.
- Manage models, analysis, and accuracy for other patient accounting processes including product warranties, guarantees, deposits, and healthcare financing fees.
- Support revenue and patient accounting mapping between systems (practice management, data warehouses, general ledger) to align with business and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and review standard and non-standard journal entries for revenue, Net AR, and other patient accounting processes.
- Prepare and review balance sheet and P&L reconciliations monthly, escalating variances.
- Maintain relationships with Revenue Cycle Management, IT/Product, and FP&A/Analytics teams to support revenue analytics and system improvements.
- Illustrate models and accounting methods, presenting to business stakeholders.
- Act as a point of contact for external auditors, managing requests and preparing documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Experience within the healthcare or dental industry.
- Experience with fee schedules, UCR rates, and how contractual rates impact adjustments.
- Experience with practice management systems and revenue cycle management processes.
- 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with 1-2 years in a healthcare or dental revenue cycle environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to leverage data tools and technology for process improvements.
- Proficiency with tools such as Power BI, Looker, Tableau, and SQL/databases.
- Proven ability to operate autonomously, manage projects and priorities, and navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- CPA preferred.
- Prior experience at a Big 4 or regional firm with healthcare clients is a differentiator.
