About the Role

Serve as the primary legal advisor for Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest, supporting new feature development, drafting disclosures, calibrating marketing content, and advising on operational matters with regulatory impacts. This role requires a proactive approach to legal challenges within a fast-paced fintech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the investment products portfolio, serving as the primary legal advisor for Mercury Treasury and Mercury Invest.
  • Advise across the full product life cycle, including new feature development, drafting disclosures, calibrating marketing content, and advising on operational matters with regulatory impacts.
  • Work across product, compliance, risk, engineering, and operations teams, bringing legal perspective early in the process.
  • Collaborate with the compliance team on regulatory matters affecting investment products, interpreting requirements, pressure-testing approaches, and supporting examination readiness with FINRA and the SEC.
  • Contribute across Legal on other product areas, gaining new experiences and broadening expertise.
  • Utilize AI tools intentionally to drive efficiency in legal workflows.
  • Translate dense regulatory concepts into straightforward, energizing narratives for stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Embrace new regulations, market shifts, or product pivots as learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of legal experience, with at least 2 years focused on non-deposit investment products.
  • Familiarity with the Investment Advisers Act, Securities Act, Investment Company Act, Regulation Best Interest, Form CRS/ADV, FINRA rules, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Some in-house experience is preferred but not required.
  • Exposure to regulatory agencies relevant to these products is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, tailoring communication to the audience.
  • A proactive sense of ownership.
  • Strong working knowledge of AI use cases within legal roles and/or financial services.
  • Genuine interest in using AI to drive efficiency.
  • Broader foundation in financial services, payments, or fintech is a plus.

  • US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $197,100 - $246,400
  • Canadian employees (any location): $207,000 - $258,700 CAD
