About the Role

Seeking a passionate, equity-driven Computer Science & Software Engineering Teacher (Grades 9-12) to lead our Software Engineering Program (SEP). SEP is an initiative of New York City's CS4All program, aiming to increase graduates ready for tech-driven roles and develop computational thinking skills. The role involves delivering an inclusive, project-based computer science curriculum for all students, including those with IEPs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver inclusive, rigorous computer science instruction.
  • Collaborate with special education co-teachers to meet IEP mandates and ensure curriculum access for all students.
  • Incorporate student goals, behavior plans, and interventions into daily instruction.
  • Employ standards-based and mission-aligned lesson and unit plans.
  • Report student progress and maintain accurate achievement records, adhering to standards-based grading practices.
  • Review classroom performance and examination data to adjust instruction.
  • Implement students' IEP mandates and work toward IEP-related goals.
  • Use assessment data to improve student performance and inform instruction.
  • Embody and cultivate the school's core values in professional practice and encourage students to do the same.
  • Host a minimum of two hours of weekly supplemental instruction.
  • Plan and lead experiential learning activities and conduct a student advisory.
  • Incorporate technology into the classroom and develop digital learning skills.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
  • Engage actively in feedback, coaching, and professional learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve practice and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to a culture of reflection, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Help create classrooms and a school community rooted in belonging, safety, and high expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Candidates must possess and maintain a New York State teaching certification, or be on an active pathway toward certification.
  • Fluency, or the ability to become fluent, in Scratch, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, p5js, and C++.
  • Familiarity with physical computing, embedded electronics, 3D design and printing, and robotics.
  • CTE certification, or the ability to become certified (Strongly Preferred).
  • Knowledge of the AP Computer Science Principles curriculum (Strongly Preferred).
  • Experience using assessment data to inform instruction and intervention (Strongly Preferred).
