About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, equity-driven History Teacher (Grades 9-12) to help our student-innovators achieve rigorous academic goals in an inclusive learning environment. You will co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess alongside colleagues in the mainstream classroom, working under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Dean of Student Supports to develop, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program that enables all students; including those with IEPs; to fulfill their academic potential. This role is ideal for an educator who believes rigorous history instruction and inclusive practice go hand in hand, and who is energized by helping every student build toward a high school diploma and a strong path to college or career.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver inclusive, rigorous history instruction.
  • Co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess students in the mainstream classroom using effective co-teaching models.
  • Teach or co-teach five periods each day, delivering standards-based lessons that push the educational attainment of all learners.
  • Individually differentiate each unit, lesson, and assessment based on the specific learning needs and interests of students in your classes.
  • Design an instructional program, in collaboration with the Assistant Principal and Dean of Student Supports, that gives students with IEPs full access to grade-level content.
  • Work with the instructional leadership team and department chairs to analyze data from iReady testing, Regents Exams, and other student assessments.
  • Implement instructional plans that respond to the needs of each IEP student on your roster.
  • Use assessment data on an ongoing basis to improve student performance on school and State assessments.
  • Embody and cultivate the school's core values - innovation, collaboration, respect, activism, integrity, empathy - in your professional practice and encourage students to do the same in their academic work and personal conduct.
  • Provide out-of-class student support through office hours, after-school programming, and extracurricular activities, as needed.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
  • Engage actively in feedback, coaching, and professional learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve practice and student outcomes.
  • Contribute to a culture of reflection, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
  • Help create classrooms and a school community rooted in belonging, safety, and high expectations.

Requirements

  • New York State Permanent, Professional, or Initial Teaching Certification in History required, or active pathway toward certification (such as enrollment in a graduate school of education).
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree.
  • 3+ years of classroom teaching experience, ideally in New York City schools or urban public/charter settings.
  • Experience co-teaching or supporting students with IEPs in inclusive settings.
  • Familiarity with Regents-aligned instruction, Common Core standards, and NYC special education systems (including SESIS).
  • Experience using assessment data to inform instruction and intervention.
