About the Role
The primary function of a police officer is to serve and interact with the public and the community of Meridian City, providing a sense of safety and security through enforcement actions, conflict resolution, order maintenance, and the protection of life and property. This role requires exercising discretion while maintaining professional integrity and adhering to department policies, laws, and constitutional provisions. The work involves personal danger and requires quick, appropriate reactions in emergency situations.

Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
- Must meet the requirements for peace officer certification in the State of Idaho
- No criminal conviction for any felony and certain misdemeanors
- No illegal drug use in accordance with Police Department Policy
- Must be of good moral character
- Successfully undergo a background investigation, polygraph exam, psychological exam, medical exam and drug screening
- Must adhere to the law enforcement code and canon of ethics
- Willing to enforce and abide by the provisions of the Idaho and United States Constitutions and the duly enacted laws of each, as well as the ordinances of the City of Meridian
- Must have a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited institution or have three (3) years active duty military service, with an honorable discharge (for Entry-Level)
- Must have previous law enforcement training and/or experience (for Lateral)
- Must possess an Idaho Basic POST Certificate in Patrol or out of state equivalent (for Lateral)
- Previous fulltime military service preferred (for Lateral)
- College degree – academic associate level or higher where are least 60 college credits have been earned preferred (for Lateral)
