About the Role

This role involves maintaining and servicing mechanical equipment, machinery, and components. You will perform skilled repairs on mechanical, electrical, and building systems, conduct inspections, identify parts, and ensure all work complies with safety procedures and cGMP requirements. The position requires responding to maintenance calls, troubleshooting systems, and maintaining detailed maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Make repairs or modifications to production equipment utilizing skills in reading schematics, using electronic test equipment, pneumatics, electrical controls, pipefitting, welding, and mechanics.
• Assist with installation checkout, and start-up of new or modified plant production equipment.
• Order maintenance machine parts and track/turn in repair parts.
• Assist Maintenance Supervisor or Manager with facts and details for formal investigations.
• Upload and download PLC programs.
• Record all downtime on the appropriate form for reporting to Maintenance Supervisor.
• Train other mechanics as requested, provided you are a qualified fellow employee (QFE).
• Maintain plant tools and toolboxes in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Adhere to cGMP guidelines, SOP’s, and plant policies/rules.
• Recognize problem trends and propose solutions, communicating effectively in verbal and written form.
• Troubleshoot common equipment issues efficiently and effectively.
• Make minor improvements to equipment when opportunities arise.
• Perform maintenance in a safe manner, utilizing correct tools and ensuring equipment is fully functional before turning over to production.
• Perform required maintenance when assigned, following all checklists.
• Take and provide feedback to others in a professional manner.
• Understand the importance of teamwork and help others whenever called upon.
• Work well with both peers and management, communicating effectively and actively listening.
• Participate in Improvement events when directed by management and assist in sustainment efforts.
• Apply basic knowledge of improvement tools when called upon by Dispatch / Production.
• Look for opportunities to improve daily processes and assist others with process improvements.
• Operate all equipment in a safe manner, ensuring people and equipment are kept safe from harm.
• Understand the basic operations of assigned resources and maintain efficiency standards.
• Achieve change-over/lot changes standards and conduct successful new starts with minimal quality or efficiency issues.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Requires 0-2 years’ experience.
• Previous experience with industrial mechanical, electrical or similar systems is strongly preferred.
• Must be able to lift max of 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Must be able to lift and move equipment/parts up to 600 lbs. assisted.
• Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment.
• Must be able to work overtime during the week and on weekends, adjust schedule quickly and willing to be called in to meet operational demands to minimize downtime.
• Provide company with current working phone number.
• May be required to become Qualified Fellow Employee (QFE) and forklift operator.

Skills

• Read pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
• Utilize basic electronic test equipment (volt/ohm and amp meter).
• Troubleshooting aptitude.
• Communicate system knowledge to other mechanics.
• Use tools such as voltmeters, amp meters, VPU's microprocessors, hand tools, welders, sheet metal equipment, calipers, and micrometers.
• Work with customers and peers to understand situations and properly communicate issues and resolution.
• Use computer software including word processing, work order processing (CMMS), and e-mail.
• Understand and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and functions of industry standard symbols.
• Basic understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and variable frequency drives (VFD) operation and setup.
