About the Role

A Project Architect / Architectural Designer III (PA/ADIII) plays a leadership role in the design, technical development, and coordination of architectural projects from concept through construction administration. This individual helps establish technical strategies, leads consultant coordination, and ensures design intent is successfully translated into high-quality construction documents, while providing guidance to project teams and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project teams while fostering collaboration across architecture, interiors, consultants, and contractors
  • Communicate design ideas effectively through internal reviews, client meetings, and presentations
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of Architectural Designers I and II
  • Take ownership of project deliverables while proactively identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborate on overall project design and advance established design concepts
  • Understand the MA Project Road Map, Deliverables by Phase, Responsibility Matrix, project contracts, scope, budget, and schedule
  • Develop project documentation strategies, including detailed mock-up ("cartoon") drawing sets and staff assignments
  • Ensure project milestones, deliverables, staffing plans, and deadlines are met
  • Coordinate technical design solutions with Project Managers and Directors
  • Establish recurring project meetings with internal teams, clients, and consultants
  • Prepare agendas, meeting minutes, and track action items
  • Provide regular project updates to Project Managers and leadership
  • Mentor and guide less experienced team members
  • Lead coordination among all consultant disciplines
  • Foster effective communication across architecture, interiors, engineering, and specialty consultants
  • Serve as a secondary client contact
  • Help manage expectations and maintain strong client relationships
  • Act as the primary point of contact for RFIs, submittals, and project correspondence
  • Coordinate signed and sealed drawing packages prior to distribution
  • Maintain an understanding of contractor responsibilities throughout construction
  • Lead production and coordination of documentation throughout all project phases
  • Manage BIM models, renderings, and project documentation
  • Monitor compliance with applicable building codes and accessibility requirements
  • Research and specify building materials and products
  • Develop project-specific construction details
  • Coordinate architectural documents with consultants to maintain technical accuracy and design intent
  • Collaborate with specification writers to prepare comprehensive project manuals
  • Create and maintain Drawing Lists and Cartoon Sets
  • Review consultant documents prior to each project phase release
  • Maintain compliance with MA Presentation Standards and Project Checklists
  • Schedule and participate in QA/QC reviews throughout project development
  • Apply strong knowledge of local building codes and accessibility standards
  • Implement BIM execution plans and coordination procedures
  • Conduct BIM audits and maintain organized project archives
  • Ensure project documentation and file organization remain accurate and complete
  • Perform thorough quality reviews of personal work before submission
  • Participate in Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings
  • Review and respond to RFIs
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent
  • Maintain RFI and submittal logs
  • Conduct site observations and prepare Field Reports
  • Prepare Punch Lists
  • Serve as a primary architectural contact with the General Contractor during construction

Requirements

  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • 8+ years of professional architectural experience
  • Project Architect: Licensed Architect required
  • Architectural Designer III: Actively pursuing Architectural Registration
  • LEED, WELL, Passive House, or other professional accreditations are encouraged
  • Demonstrated experience leading consultant coordination and producing high-quality construction documentation through all phases of design
