About the Role
Works collaboratively with the health care team, under the direct supervision of the Nurse Supervisors, and RN’s to provide direct patient care, maintain Emergency Department environment and perform various clerical duties. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Responsibilities
- Obtains pertinent registration information from patient and/or family, enters into computer, and provides ER chart.
- Performs order entry, e.g. Enters orders, charges, reprinting orders.
- Assumes responsibility for admitting process (in absence of registrar/clerk).
- Checks emergency department supplies and restocks as needed. Prepares order for central stores.
- Performs ER tech skills competently including vital signs, EKG’s, bandaging, setting up 02, finger-stick glucose tests, etc. Duties to enhance customer service and satisfaction during high volume times.
- Performs Phlebotomies as directed by RN.
- Assist in room readiness to prior to patient use.
- Facilitates communication by answering phones, answering patient call lights, and is a link between patient, patient family and health care team.
- Performs other patient care duties such as transporting of patients; maintaining log books, Xeroxing charts; and other duties designated by Supervisor.
- Maintains general appearance of Emergency Department (cleaning up after patients, cleans stretcher and counters).
- Displays analytical and basic problem solving skills. Communicates problems to manager as appropriate.
- Follows all time and attendance policies.
- Attends educational programs provided by the Hospital or those which are outside the Hospital that are related to job responsibilities.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous medical background and/or EMS training preferred.
- BLS preferred.
